Ingredients

For the Menorah

  • frozen or homemade challah dough

  • 1 egg yolk

  • sesame

For the Flames Egg Puree

  • 5 potatoes

  • matze meal

  • shredded cheese (I use gruyère)

  • 9 egg yolks

  • salt, to taste

  • black pepper, to taste

  • parsley, to taste

Directions

Prepare the Menorah

1.

Shape your challah dough as a menorah, put egg yolk and sesame on top before putting in the oven.

For the Flame Eggs Puree

1.

Peel the potatoes and put them into boiling water for 20 minutes. Take the potatoes out and smash them to a puree.

2.

Add the matze meal, the shredded cheese, salt, pepper and parsley. Separate the puree into nine and shape them like candle flames. Put each candle flame on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little bit more matze meal.

3.

Gently press in the middle of each flame with a small glass (schnapps glass are the best!). Inside the cavity, put a little bit of cheese and then add the egg yolk.

4.

Bake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius (356 Fahrenheit) for 15 minutes.

5.

When it is ready, put the challah on a big plate with a flame on top of each candle. Everyone can pick up a flame and dip a bit of challah in the egg yolk! Bon appetit and Chanuka Sameach!
