Something about the combination of sautéed vegetables, cheese, and dough makes this stromboli the perfect comfort food.   Yield: 2 logs (approximately 16–20 slices)

Ingredients

Stromboli

  • 2 teaspoons oil

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 (10-ounce) box mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 green pepper, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or 2 cubes Gefen Frozen Garlic

  • salt to taste

Directions

Prepare the Stromboli

1.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.

In a frying pan over medium heat, heat oil and sauté vegetables, salt, and pepper for seven to 10 minutes.

3.

Set aside to cool.

4.

Divide the dough into two parts. Roll one out into a large rectangle. Spread cheese down the middle. Top with half the vegetables and add some more cheese on top.

5.

Roll up jelly-roll style and flatten a little with your hands.

6.

Repeat with the second part of the dough.

7.

Top with egg wash and everything bagel spice.

8.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Tips:

This freezes amazingly. I like to make two at a time and freeze one, then pull it out on a busy day.

Notes:

This recipe also works well with frozen pizza dough or dough purchased in a pizza shop.
