Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1–2 tablespoons oil

  • 1 onion, diced

  • approximately 1 pound (450 grams) shredded cabbage

  • 2 apples, shredded

  • 1/4 cup sugar, or to taste

  • juice of 1 lemon (approximately 3 tablespoons juice)

  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste

  • dash of pepper

  • handful of golden raisins

Directions

Sauté

1.

Sauté onion in oil until golden.

2.

Add cabbage and continue sautéing on a low flame for approximately 10–15 minutes.

3.

Add apples and remaining ingredients and cook, stirring occasionally, for additional 15 minutes. Serve hot, room temperature, or cold.

Notes:

Cooking this dish for just half an hour assures that you have the right balance between crunchy and soft. If you prefer a softer texture, cook for one to one and a half hours. You might have to add a little water. This recipe works well with purple cabbage, too.
