I’ve tried out many cinnamon bun recipes over the years, never skimping on the ingredients. (Some of my recipes had 2 pounds of margarine in it, plus loads of other “good stuff.”) This one is by far the easiest and quickest to make, has the most delicious moist taste – that doesn’t disappear the next day – and not that bad for a diet! No need for any mixer, and no need to rise makes it the perfect recipe for an impromptu party or melava malka!

Ingredients

Dough

  • 8 cups flour

  • 1 and 1/2 cups oil

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs + 2 yolks

  • 2 and 1/2 TBSP yeast in 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1 cup grape juice

  • 1/2 cup boiling water

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Filling

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup confectionary sugar

  • 8 teaspoons cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1 and 1/2 cups confectionary sugar

  • 3 TBSP boiling water

  • 1/2 tbsp oil

Directions

Prepare the Dough

1.

Mix all the dough ingredients in a bowl, by hand.

2.

Divide dough into 4 balls.

3.

Roll out one ball, smear oil on top and spread filling on top (be generous!), roll up, slice and place in a round pan. Repeat with other 3 balls.

4.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1/2 hour.

5.

Mix glaze ingredients, adding more confectionary until desired consistency is achieved, and pour over cinnamon buns.

Always best to wait 5-10 minutes to allow the yeast to proof.
