Yellow Cumin Rice

Most Indians prepare rice this way. In Canada, my mother would sometimes add frozen vegetables for color.

Prepare the Rice

  1. Heat oil in a saucepan. Add onions and sauté onion until golden. Add cumin seeds. Add salt and turmeric and mix well. Add rice and stir and cook for a couple of minutes. Add water.

  2. Let rice cook, uncovered, in pot until water has evaporated. Cover, lower heat, and cook for five more minutes. Using a fork, poke rice to let steam out (This way the rice will not be sticky).
