There’s something special about Seudat Shlishit in the Summer—the slower pace and the golden hour light. It’s the perfect time for relaxed conversation, a cozy spread, and… a really good dip. Whether you’re setting out crackers or fresh veggies, having a variety of flavorful dips makes the table feel full with minimal effort.

From herby green dips to tahini blends, and bright, citrusy salsas, these are the dips that bring everyone back to the table one more time.

Parve:

1. Smoky Hummus by Riqi Schonbrun

Hummus is such a versatile dip; pair it with matzah or veggies for a quick protein hit. In this hummus, the chickpeas are sautéed with onions to create a deeper flavor. (If you want to skip that step, the hummus will still be delicious. Just omit the onion and blend the rest of the ingredients together.) My sister Shaindy is allergic to sesame, so my hummus never has techinah in it. No one misses it in this recipe!

2. Caramelized Leeks and Mushroom Dip by Vera Newman

We are all used to the same old, same old when it comes to dips. My family’s all-time favorite is mushroom dip, which I make on a weekly basis. Boy, do I get in trouble if I decide to skip a week! Recently, I had some leeks lying around and came up with this incredible combo. Serve with crostini or warm challah to get the full experience.

3. Avocado Ranch Dipping Sauce by Elizabeth Kurtz

4. Classic Salsa by Sina Mizrahi

The first time I saw Tuscanini’s canned cherry tomatoes, I thought they were pure genius! Cherry tomatoes tend to be sweeter, and they work perfectly in this classic salsa. It has just the right amount of piquant and a perfect blend of flavors. I suggest adding a bit of cumin for that extra something. It’s the best combo with chips.

5. Pineapple and Pom Salsa by Sina Mizrahi

I love that hint of sweetness pineapple adds to salsa. Once you take one bite, any reservations you have of combining fruits and vegetables will dissipate and you will keep going in for more. And more. The pomegranate adds a nice pop of color and fruitiness.

6. Olive and Basil Leaf Tapenade (Sugar Free) by Adina Silberman

This dip is so easy to make and can be eaten on so many occasions. Serve with challah on Shabbat or with breakfast during the week – it will definitely wake up your taste buds!

Dairy:

7. “Sour Cream” and Onion Dip by Riqi Schonbrun

This dip doesn’t use sour cream, but the flavors are very similar. Grilling the scallions lends a smoky flavor. With the everything seasoning, it’s really reminiscent of a bagel with cream cheese!

8. Seven-Layer Dip by Faigy Murray

The irony of the name is that it’s not actually seven layers, but it’s delicious, especially when combined with salty chips, so who cares?

Though I stuck to a more traditional seven-layer dip, you can really use any of your favorite dips—I’ve seen this done with chummus, onion dip, techina, and others.

9. Labneh Dip with Herb Oil by Carolina Gelen

This is such a wonderful and easy-to-make starter that will surely wow your guests. It looks like something you would order at a 5-star restaurant, but it’s ready in about 5 minutes.
