Savory:

1. Mushroom and Caramelized Onion Kugel by Chaya Rappoport

It takes time to properly caramelize a pot of onions – about an hour, to be exact – but it’s well worth it. The resulting onions are jammy and fragrant, with a complex sweetness that completely upgrades your average onion kugel. I’ve added meaty mushrooms (my favorites are oysters and shiitakes) to this kugel for extra flavor. Don’t love mushrooms? Substitute the mushrooms for an equal amount of greens like spinach or kale, or try chopping up pastrami and adding it in.

2. Deli Egg Rolls by Faigy Murray

As a kid, every time my father bought egg rolls, I’d bite the crispy ends of each egg roll but never touch the middle. Today I leave the starchy ends and love the middle! Another favorite of mine when using leftovers; you can literally sauté and add anything to these!

3. Meatball Bites by Jackie Yesharim

I’d like to introduce Cocktail Franks’ more sophisticated cousin, Meatball Bites!

Holiday season is upon us, which means tons of hosting, & tons of food! I’ve learned over time that even with cooking, less is more! I find that when I go with a more “basic” recipe, it is always foolproof. I always make sure to have some sort of light appetizer for guests to munch on before a meal — that way we keep the “HANGRY” at bay. These meatball bites are the perfect recipe to have on hand, and the best part is kids love it too!

4. Candied Jalapeño Hushpuppies with Sweet Butter by Lauren Hartmann

I grew up eating hushpuppies, and I will never turn one down. I’ve had some amazing hushpuppies in my time; however, these are the best of the best. They are moist on the inside, super crispy on the outside, and they’re sweet with just a little spice. These are without a doubt the hushpuppies you will want to eat forever.

5. Sweet Potato Latkes with Spicy Peanut Dipping Sauce by Tanya Ohana

6. Potato Latke Schnitzel by Daniella Silver

7. Mushroom-Stuffed Mozzarella Sticks by Michal Frischman

These are definitely a little less cheesy but a whole lot more flavorful than standard mozzarella sticks. But then again, the idea of eating a whole deep-fried cheese stick was never my thing. For best results, freeze completely after breading.

8. Cheese-Stuffed Bread Loaf by Chef Tom Francz

This is a delicious, classy bread, great for company. You can make it out of almost any bread, store-bought or homemade. Your kids will have a great time helping you stuff it, and taking it apart is as fun as creating it.

9. Flatbread with Mushroom-Onion Topping by Temi Philip

This quick and easy dough can be made with just a bowl and spoon. Enjoy them as a change of pace for Shalosh Seudos.

10. Pastrami Tostadas by Faigy Murray

I recently ate this at a restaurant and immediately decided that I must recreate it. This is the best appetizer ever! It was approved by my boys, so it must be really good. I made two versions, a fried one and a baked one. They are equally delicious.

11. Full ‘N Free Real-Deal Latkes by Rorie Weisberg

To freeze latkes, drain freshly fried latkes on parchment paper. Arrange them in a single layer on a sheet pan, then wrap tightly with plastic wrap. To reheat, place the latkes on a sheet pan and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes, or until they are hot and crispy.

12. Pizza Quiche by Chayie Schlisselfeld

Who says being a grown-up means you can never eat pizza? Enjoy this delicious “crossover” dish guilt-free, as it is also low in fat.

Sweet:

13. Salted Brown Butter Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies by Chaya Rappoport

Browning butter turns regular butter into liquid gold: nutty and fragrant with toasty milk solids that lend a deeply buttery flavor to anything you add them to. Here, browned butter, dark brown sugar and chopped up toffee combine to yield golden, caramel-ly chocolate chip cookies with pools of melted chocolate. Banging the cookies on the counter during the baking time helps the cookies spread and ripple beautifully, and don’t forget the flaky salt on top- it’s a must to counterbalance all that toffee.

14. Sufganiyot Focaccia by Esty Wolbe

15. Dreidel Snowball Cookies by Shoshi and Tzippy Newman

These dreidel cookies are identical to the famous snowball drop cookies that melt in your mouth and are so good! Except that this recipe only calls for three ingredients! So… it’s not the healthiest recipe, but if you’re looking for something fun to make with a friend on a Sunday, or something delish to make for Shabbat, these are not normally insane and they get finished in like 10 seconds flat. No joke. We also sometimes use this recipe for rugelach and those are also super good!

16. Gluten Free Chocolate Coin Cookies by Sarah Berg

A regular crinkle cookie with a twist. I used granulated sugar instead of confectioners’ sugar and pressed a chocolate coin into the center of each cookie. A chocolate lover’s dream with a Chanukah flavor.

17. Hot Chocolate Pie by Batsheva Kanter

This is obviously not HOT chocolate, but here you’ve got all the same flavors in an ice cream pie.

18. Chanukah Krembo by Shena Dominitz

The favorite Israeli winter treat gets all dressed up for Chanukah! With a soft cookie base, pillowy and sweet marshmallow filling, and a thin, scrumptious chocolate coating, Krembo will be your new favorite indulgence, too!

19. Sweet Cheese Latkes by Batsheva Kanter

These sweet cheese latkes are perfect for making ahead of time. Simply freeze and then reheat in the oven to crisp.

20. Stained Glass Rings by Clara Fatal

These gorgeous window-like cookies are almost too pretty to eat!

21. 2-Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookie Truffles by Batsheva Kanter
