Can I add mushrooms?
Sure
Brown Rice Can I use brown rice? Any changes to the recipe? Is short grain brown rice better to use than Basmati brown rice?
Brown Basmati adds such a great flavor!! Great idea. You might need to cook a drop longer.
chicken how should i prepare the chicken? am i meant to slice it thin?
Put the chicken in the crock pot whole, or halve it if you like. I think that it gets so soft that it becomes fork ready to break up and shred or keep it as you like…
Cutting down for 2 How would you adjust this recipe to use just 1 pound of chicken?
Hi Chaya,
Whenever I buy chicken cutlets, I have been getting about 3-4 cutlets to a pound. In that case, I would say that you should probably halve the recipe, but be conservative on the spices. You can add more salt and pepper later. Hope this helps!
I cook using very little chicken, since I’m just preparing for two adults. I’m nervous that the water reduction could cause the food to burn.
I think it’s about ratio of rice to water that counts the most. So long as the ration follows through, you are ok.
It’s a crockpot recipe, though. The water evaporates at the same rate, so how do you adjust the time?
Crockpots are pretty forgiving. But I will ask if the time needs that much of a reduction.
Can I use chat bottoms instead? How much longer would it need to cook?
Yes, you should be able to use chicken bottoms and I don’t think it would need more than 6 hours in the crock pot.
How do you make this for Shabbos with only 6 hours of cooking?
You can make it for Friday night or try it out on low for Shabbos day- not sure if it would be too long though.
