Prepare the Chocolate Truffles

  1. Break the chocolate into squares and place in a bowl.

  2. Add milk and butter cubes and melt together in a double boiler or in a microwave until everything is melted and the mixture is smooth. Add salt and stir.

  3. Place the wafers in a sealed bag and, using a rolling pin, crush into crumbs (or grind in a food processor).

  4. Add the crumbs to the chocolate mixture and mix until the mixture is smooth.

  5. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for about an hour until it becomes firm.

  6. Make small walnut-sized balls from the cold mixture and coat with ground wafers.

Note:

Store the chocolate balls in a closed container for up to a week. The salt emphasizes the flavors and balances the sweetness in this dessert; don’t skip it.

Variation:

Instead of dark chocolate you can use milk chocolate, but the result will be sweeter.
