The Best Shabbat Mishloach Manot Ideas!

Categories: Purim | Recipe Roundups

By now, we all know that Purim falls on a Friday this year, so it’s no surprise that many of us are embracing a "Shabbat theme" for our Mishloach Manot. But if you're looking for ways to go beyond just challah and dips to really bring the theme to life, then this roundup is for you!

We're talking babkas, herring, kichels, grape juice gummy bears, and so much more! Even if your neighbor and best friend are going with the same theme, you can be sure that yours will stand out in a unique way!

1. Sweet Sisters’ Shabbat Treats: Challah Cookies by Shoshi and Tzippy Newman

Ready to get baking?! This week we are going to make sugar cookies in a braid, just like challah. Yeah, super cool! it looks stunning when it comes out and tastes just as good!

2. Kiddush Gummy Bears by Victoria Dwek

During one Friday evening in the summer, I noticed one of my neighbor’s children, all ready for Shabbos in her Shabbos robe, enjoying a treat she called “Kiddush Ices.” It was simply frozen grape juice, prepared granita-style. I loved the idea of simply iconic Kedem grape juice being turned into a treat that adds to the excitement of the day. That was the inspiration for these gummy bears. Silicon candy molds are inexpensive, and kosher gelatin is also available at most kosher supermarkets.

3. Shabbat Morning Cappuccino Milk Muffins by Estee Kafra

4. Kiddush in a Box by Esther Ottensoser

While preparing this article, one of the goals I had in mind from the get-go was that the Mishloach Manot packages should be “doable” for everyone, with a variety of fun, cutesy and elegant ideas.

5. "Esterant" Mishloach Manos by Esther Ottensoser

Tie your mishloach manos, Purim seudah, and reading of the Megillah together with this adorable menu. Between all the nosh everyone receives on Purim day, your recipients will appreciate not only the wittiness but also the practical “real” food.

6. Babka with a Bow by Esther Ottensoser

When it comes to babka, I often think of Goldilocks (that’s right, the one with the three bears). You see, somehow it’s always hard to get the babka “just right.” Sometimes it’s too doughy, at other times too chocolaty, and the perfect balance seems so hard to find. A few years ago I got this recipe from my good friend Shaini. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the only complaint you’ll hear will be “Someone’s been eating my piece…”   Watch this babka come to life on Shortcuts by Family Table.

7. Spiced Olives by Esther Ottensoser

These spiced olives are easy to make and full of flavor.

8. Salad Bowl Turnover by Esther Ottensoser

Think “out of the bowl” and create this neat, practical (and healthy!) mishloach manos.

9. Spot of Tea "Shmoose" by Esther Ottensoser

10. Sesame Cabbage Salad by Esther Ottensoser

11. Beef Jerky by Esther Ottensoser

12. Meat Chummus by Esther Ottensoser

I got this recipe from a friend when we were discussing ideas for mishloach manos. She serves this meaty chummus dish every Shabbos lunch as one of her dips. She layers chummus, techina, and then this meat mixture on a small plate. Placed in a glass jar (such as the Weck jar shown), this makes a neat and practical mishloach manos, to be enjoyed at the Purim seudah. Tie it together with a bundle of mini pitas or crackers with twine. See how to prepare this recipe.

13. Coffee Liqueur by Esther Ottensoser

Pairs beautifully alongside these Two-Tone Cookies.

14. Lahamagene by Rivky Kleiman

A classic Sephardic finger food that has become popular at many Ashkenazic tables, including my own. Special thanks to my dear friend Mari G., who introduced me to this delicacy and shared this recipe from Debbie G.

15. Challah Dip Rolls by Tamar Ansh
